Diego Tristan was the perfect striker... for three seasons he tore up La Liga with partner Roy Makaay at Deportivo La Coruna. In the 2001/02 season, Tristan even won the Pichichi Trophy as the top scorer in La Liga while Deportivo won the Copa Del Rey beating Real Madrid in the final.

He was supposed to have joined Real Madrid back in 2000 but when Lorenzo Sanz lost his presidency at Real Madrid, the deal was cancelled and as you know a new era in the capital was started under Florentino Perez and the Pavones y Zidane strategy.

Injuries, loss of confidence and form, meant Tristan would never hit the levels from 1999-2002 that made him one of the most lethal frontmen in European football.
