Who is Roy Keane?

Roy Keane is a highly decorated and fiercely competitive figure in football. His 18-year playing career saw him rise from Cobh Ramblers in Ireland to become a dominant midfielder and captain at Manchester United, where he won numerous major trophies, including seven Premier League titles and the Champions League.

Known for his aggressive style and leadership, Keane played a pivotal role in Manchester United's success under Sir Alex Ferguson. He also represented the Republic of Ireland, though his international career was marked by controversy, most notably his departure from the 2002 World Cup squad.

After retiring as a player, Keane transitioned into management, taking Sunderland from the bottom of the Championship to promotion to the Premier League. He also managed Ipswich Town and held assistant manager roles with the Republic of Ireland national team, Aston Villa, and Nottingham Forest.

Beyond the pitch, Keane has become a prominent pundit, known for his forthright opinions on British television channels like ITV and Sky Sports. He was inducted into the Premier League Hall of Fame in 2021, solidifying his legacy as one of the most influential midfielders of his generation.
