Batty rose through the ranks at Leeds United and was a key member of their successful teams in the late 1980s and early 1990s. He won the Premier League title with Blackburn Rovers in 1995, although he played a limited role due to injury. Batty also had a successful spell at Newcastle United, helping them challenge for the Premier League title.  

He earned 42 caps for England and represented his country at Euro 1992 and the 1998 World Cup. Batty has largely avoided the public eye since his retirement, preferring a quiet life away from the spotlight.
